Robert Olman
Robert “Bob” Olman founded Alpha Search Advisory Partners in 2002, an executive search consultancy and an advisor in alternative asset manager consolidation. Since 2001, Mr. Olman has specialized in searches for Portfolio Managers, Senior alpha generating Analysts, Senior Risk Officers and Marketers. Bob has a 25-year track record in successfully leading senior level investment professional searches for the financial services industry. As part of the federal government’s effort to create a regulatory agency to manage the risk in Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae portfolios, Bob was directly involved in creating legislation to open the Federal Government to retaining executive search firms in 1997. Prior to founding Alpha Search Advisory Partners, Bob built and successfully grew COR Management Services, Ltd., an executive search and contract consulting firm with offices in New York, Boston and Washington D.C., specializing in structured finance, quantitative analysis, and financial engineering across sell side capital markets sales and trading.
A noted communicator, Bob is a regular editorial contributor to on-line media such as Finance Ladders.com, HedgeFund Digest Blog, Hedge Fund Intelligence, HedgeFund.net, FIN Alternatives, Forbes Online, MSNBC, Marketsmedia.com, Bloomberg News, Dow Jones MarketWatch and Reuters Online. He is sought after for industry insight and frequently quoted in career advisory books and institutional investment publications including: The Wall Street Journal (US and Global Editions), Bloomberg Magazine, Pensions & Investments, Investment Dealers Digest, Absolute Return Magazine, Alpha Magazine, HFM Week, Hedge Fund Digest, and Derivatives Week. He has also been interviewed on Fox Financial News, CNBC and USA Today. Bob Olman hosted several financial career and employment forums to graduates and alumni at Columbia University, Baruch College and New York University.
Mr. Olman is involved in numerous humanitarian causes, with a special emphasis on children’s charities. A portion of all fees from services is allocated among the organizations he helps support and include Cancer Center for Kids, Capital for Kids, Children’s Cancer Center, Foundation for Equine Assisted Therapy, Good Samaritan Ministry, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Special Olympics, and others. Most recently, Bob organized a grass roots team of high school honor students to assist stressed homeowners with limited English skills to navigate the HUD mortgage modification and principal reduction programs.
Bob attended SUNY Binghamton and holds degrees in both Political Science and English. He is a board member of Tipsy Taxi of Long Island, a 401(c) charity which helps to reduce drunken driving, and an active volunteer for Wall Street Warfighters, which trains and equips disabled war veteran for the financial services industry. He lives in Roslyn, NY with his wife Vicki, two daughters and Shih Tzu, Scampi.
Donna Braunstein
Donna Braunstein has 15 years experience in Executive Search and is the Head of Fulfillment at Alpha Search Advisory Partners, with responsibility for developing strategy and leading teams in the execution of executive search mandates for our clients. Since joining in 2004, Ms. Braunstein manages candidate sourcing and origination, detailed, technical and behavioral interviews, vetting and due diligence throughout the search process. Ms. Braunstein focuses on talent acquisition for Portfolio Managers & Senior Analysts in fundamental investing strategies and sectors including in Distressed Debt, Credit, Special Situations, Equity L/S and others, developed and emerging markets.
Donna began her career as a commercial litigator at the New York law firm of Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle, followed by a tenure at the litigation boutique, Holtzmann Wise & Shepard. In 1995, Ms. Braunstein joined the New York office of Special Counsel, a nationwide search firm for attorneys, first as a search consultant and later promoted to Executive Director. Following Special Counsel, Donna joined Attorneys on Assignment, one of New York’s largest interim executive consulting firm as Director of Attorney Placement. At AoA, Donna served in a strategic role focusing on business development and talent acquisition.
Donna holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan, graduating with honors. She has a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where she was a member of the International Law Journal. She and her husband are actively involved with fund raising and volunteer work for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and are the Number One fund-raising team for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes for many years. She resides in Syosset, NY with her husband and son.
Philip J. Uranga
Philip Uranga is an Associate Recruiter at Alpha Search Advisory Partners, responsible for alternative investments industry research, sourcing and vetting of prospective candidates for client search mandates. As an executive search specialist, Mr. Uranga concentrates his efforts and relationship-building in alternative asset management Marketing, as well as client services and investor relations. Clients of Alpha Search receive from Philip broad value specific to asset-gathering efforts and human capital: up-to-the-minute strategic intelligence, executive changes, compensation trends, competitor analyses and granular, insightful write-ups of Marketing professionals.
Prior to joining Alpha Search, Mr. Uranga served as an executive search consultant in the Lifesciences, Healthcare and Physician divisions of Execu|Search Group. Philip began his recruiting career with Muller & Associates, a boutique retained search consultancy specializing in C-level searches in financial services across North America and Europe.
Mr. Uranga attended undergraduate school at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis for four years and ultimately received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Stony Brook University in 2004. Philip resides in Kew Gardens, NY. His interests include enjoying fine dining and the arts in New York and he is working towards earning his pilots license.
William Flahive
William Flahive is an Associate Recruiter at Alpha Search Advisory Partners, responsible for alternative investments industry research, sourcing and vetting of prospective candidates for client search mandates. Bill’s unique background brings added depth into the evaluation process of candidate pools.
Prior to joining Alpha Search, Bill founded Island Trading Group, a successful floor brokerage operation specializing in Gold and Silver futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Mr. Flahive led the development and execution of trading and hedging strategies for the bullion desks of some major International banks in Zurich, Geneva, London and New York. Bill was a regular contributor to Bloomberg News and Radio on market conditions and outlook. Bill is a Registered Floor Broker and holds Series 3 Commodities certification.
Mr. Flahive graduated from Fordham University with a Bachelors Degree in Finance. He has a passion for recreation and competitive race sailing, and currently lives in Glen Cove, NY with his wife Helena and their two children Billy and Emma.
Fangyun Lin
Fangyun Lin is an Associate at Alpha Search Advisory Partners, responsible for research in alternative investments industry and talent acquisition in North America and Greater China. Ms. Lin develops research, views and insight in great detail as part of the new business and competitive intelligence development efforts for Alpha Search.
Fangyun earned an MBA in Finance from Long Island University, and her thesis project was a statistical analysis of the impact of stressed sovereign loans to the European banking industry, post-2008 credit crisis. Prior to completing her MBA, Ms. Lin was employed as an operations and management associate in the South China Market division of the Luxottica Group, the world’s largest eyewear company. Fangyun was responsible for coordinating sales and marketing strategies across 120 retail stores, post-acquisition integrations, due diligence and financial reporting across the region, translations, and improvement of cross-cultural organizational communications for this multi-national company. Ms. Lin was previously employed as an independent manufacturer’s representative specializing in developing relationships and negotiating transactions with foreign buyers.
Fangyun received her Bachelor of Science in International Business from Guangzhou University in Guangzhou, China. Ms. Lin is an avid amateur Badminton player and an organizer of the International Badminton China Open 2005. Her interests include natural & architectural photography and piano. She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
